Hi. My name is Rhiana. I’m 21 years old. I was born in the East Midlands but am currently living in Liverpool as a student. I was misdiagnosed at 13/14 years old, and have only recently received my diagnosis of Fibromyalgia.
I first started to have pains in my ankles at around 10 years old. These pains worsened after I had my appendix out at age 12. This is when my health in general worsened. I was diagnosed with Hypermobility Syndrome, chronic pain, Chronic Pain Syndrome and Raynaud’s Disease. My current diagnosis is Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Raynaud’s Disease. I also suffer with anxiety and depression and am under investigation for fainting spells.
Fibromyalgia is really hard to cope with. Its debilitating and not enough people understand it, especially doctors. I wish I was diagnosed earlier as being diagnosed over 10 years later feels as though I’ve been neglected by the NHS. I’ve had countless tests and have been put through so much trauma due to this.
However, I refuse to let it stop me. I still go to university and am hoping to do a masters. I still work. I still do most things I want. I have a lot of hard days and that’s still something I’m learning to accept as okay.
